Delhi: Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, and Speaker, Lok Sabha, Shri Om Birla, launched the groundbreaking ‘Skills on Wheels’ initiative in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and IndusInd Bank. The momentous event took place at a flagging-off ceremony, marking the commencement of a transformative endeavor aimed at empowering 60,000 rural youth over a span of five years. The initiative’s core mission is to uplift the livelihoods of rural households by providing essential skills training to its young population.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pradhan said that as a customized bus with retrofitted tools, Skills On Wheels will take the Skill India Mission to the remotest corners of India. The initiative will equip rural youth, particularly women with key Digital Skills and make them job and future-ready, he added.
The ‘Skills on Wheels’ initiative will utilize a specially customized bus, furnished with state-of-the-art tools, to promote the Skill India Mission across aspirational and backward districts, spanning the length and breadth of the country. Its primary objective is to create grassroots awareness about free skill training programs, enabling youth to chart a transformative path for their lives through robust skill development. In alignment with this noble mission, the partnership with IndusInd Bank seeks to empower the nation’s youth through the ‘Skills on Wheels’ project.
At the heart of the this initiative lies the vision of providing industry-relevant skill training to a substantial number of young individuals, thereby enhancing both their theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. This concerted effort aims to secure better livelihoods for youth by fostering synergy, oversight, and effective coordination. It seeks to bridge the gap between industry demand for skilled professionals and the unemployed youth by assisting them in selecting the right courses based on their academic background, aptitude, and skill set.
