Southern region 7 points above national average in Industry-Institute Linkage : CII-AICTE survey

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) : The southern region got the highest objective score 26.17 in the Confederation of Indian Industries-All Indian Council for Technical Education (CII-AICTE) Industry-Linked Institutes Survey 2016, the report of which was published on Tuesday. This score is almost seven points more than the national average of 19.24.

The survey is conducted by the CII and the AICTE annually and analysis industry linkages of institutes from various streams.

The fifth edition of the survey was rolled out on May 5 and closed on September 2. Institutions are rated based on six parameters governance, curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, services/ project & skill development and placements.

“For degree institutes the focus was on their research and consultation work and institutes were evaluated based on the number of published industry-related research papers and contractual consulting services that they provided to the industry,” the report stated.

“On the other hand, diploma institutes were evaluated based on their ability to develop skill sets in collaboration with industry and revenue generation through projects,” the report said. The national average objective score is 19.24. The region with the lowest objective score is the eastern region with 14.45. The number of institutes that participated in the survey is almost same as that in the last year (901 in 2015 and 890 in 2016).

The highest participation came from self-financed institutes (669), while government institutes stood a distant second (119).
