Telecom Sector Skill Council foresee 8.6 million jobs in next 5 years, 3.8 million in mobile manufacturing alone

Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) : The telecom sector will create 8.6 million jobs in the next five years in our country, CEO of Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), S P Kochhar, said during an MoU signing ceremony. Of the 8.6million jobs, nearly 3.8million will be in the area of manufacturing mobile phones.

“Telecom is one of the fastest growing sectors in our country and there is an acute shortage of skilled workforce in the industry. TSSC, a non-profit organization, has been training people in various areas of the telecom industry in partnership with the National Council of Skill Development (NSDC),” Kochhar said.

TSSC signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with PSG Institutions for setting up a telecom skill development centre at PSG College of Technology and for training students of PSG Polytechnic College. Kochhar and principal of PSG College of Technology, R Rudramoorthy, signed the MoUs.

The PSG-Keysight Centre For Advanced Wireless Communication will provide the infrastructure to conduct the courses. “This centre will announce the availability of courses to the public. We have invested nearly Rs4crore in the last two-three years to create the infrastructure and TSSC will provide the curriculum,” Rudramoorthy said.

“The curriculum will be designed based on the industry requirement. We are following the German model where students are first given hands-on training in the industry and then classroom coaching,” Kocchar said.
