Anticipating huge demand for trained personnel in various fields, Andhra Pradesh government is keen on undertaking skill gap analysis and involving the industries to create a large talent pool.
AP State Skill Development Corporation, which was set up to find out a structured and pragmatic solution to skill development, projects the shortage of 20 million skilled workers in the next 15 years.
Minister for IT, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Nara Lokesh said during an interactive session with CII here on Saturday that there was no dearth of funds and the government was ready to earmark Rs. 400 crore to Rs. 500 crore on skill development.
Mr. Lokesh said within 100 days of taking over as a Cabinet Minister, he would launch a scheme particularly to overcome skilled manpower shortage in the IT industry.
“There is huge shortage of trained manpower at various levels due to which in most of the BPOs we have people from other States. Learning lessons from our experience, we should gear up to face the challenge ahead,” a senior executive of WNS said.
Responding to the call for partnership, IT Association of AP (ITAAP) recently signed an MoU with APSSDC to extend its cooperation in upgrading skills of young professionals in areas where its member-companies have specialization.
ITAAP secretary Sridhar Kosaraju said they had recently signed MoU with APSSDC to offer their expertise in offering internship support to a select group of engineering students.
It will also offer ‘training the trainer’ programme for resource persons of the corporation and train students in python, SAP, Android and other technologies to enhance their employability.
Tata Consultancy Services has already signed MoU with Gayatri Vidya Parishad College for Degree and PG Courses, GITAM University and M.V.G.R. Engineering College for skill development.
While it will undertake faculty development programme and offer counseling on the web with BSc and BCA students of Gayatri, it has agreed to offer a remote internship for Gayatri and M.V.G.R. and GITAM engineering students.
