Visakhapatnam : Minister for Law, Justice and Skill Development Kollu Ravindra has said the government was planning to start ‘Udyogarathams’ in all districts of the State, provided companies came forward to participate in the funding of the project.
Mr. Ravindra launched ‘Udyogaratham’, a mobile employment van, along with Minister for Labour and Employment, Pithani Satyanarayana and Minister for HRD Ganta Srinivasa Rao , at the Skill Development Institute (SDI) at Arilova here on Friday.
Later addressing a meeting, Mr. Ravindra said thousands of engineering graudates were coming out of colleges but recruiting companies were not finding them ‘employable’. This was due to lack of infrastructure at the colleges and poor communication skills.
Commending Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) for donating funds to the SDI and the mobile employment van, under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Minister appealed to other companies to extend funds for setting up of similar institutes to hone the skills of students in other districts also. He spoke on the vision of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to create over 1 lakh IT jobs and over 6 lakh jobs in various sectors in the next two years.
Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao said the first ‘Udyogaratham’ was launched by the Chief Minister at Vijayawada in April last year.
MD and CEO of AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) K. Satyanarayana said a mere 2 per cent of the people in India were undergoing formal skill development training as against 98 per cent in South Korea. Similarly, only 5 per cent of B. Tech pass outs in India were ‘job ready’. He underlined the need for skill development training apart from soft skills and domain knowledge.
He said APSSDC has started skill training for 5th class children in ‘Scratch’, a simple coding language and in App inventor to develop problem resolution skills in children. He also briefed about the other initiatives of the state government.
Secretary of SDI, Visakhapatnam, and Chief Manager – HR, HPCL, Mumbai, K. Nagesh were also present at the occasion.
