Vijayawada : Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K. Sambasiva Rao met Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and explained him about its new project ‘Sangam’ aimed at providing vocational training in different trades for unemployed youth.
The corporation MD met Satya Nadella, who is on a two-day visit to India, in Hyderabad on Monday and explained him about the activities of the APSSDC. The project will begin by the end of this month and youth will be trained in eight trades which offer good job opportunities.
Training will be imparted to the unemployed youth in electrical and housing wiring, data entry, nursing/general patient assistants, mobile assembly/repair technicians, sewing machine operator, hospitality stewards/waiters and customer sales executive courses.
Sangam project will be launched in four places – Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tada (Sri City) and Ananthapur – in the first phase and training centres will be expanded to seven more places in the State later.

“The salient features of the new project is to introduce mobile-led vocational training to facilitate e-learning through tablets, smart classrooms and e-guest lectures from master trainers and potential employers and digitalizing substantial portions of the course contents with regular online assessments,” Mr. Sambasiva Rao explained and said the APSSDC was partnering with Microsoft to leverage the potential of the new project, through which 20,000 unemployed youth would be trained in a phased manner.
The Microsoft CEO reportedly appreciated the initiative of the AP government to transform the State into a knowledge centre. Mr. Sambasiva Rao requested Mr. Satya Nadella to set up ‘Centres of excellence and technology labs’ in identified universities, engineering colleges to train students in new technologies.
