Srikakulam : In an attempt to improve the socio-economic condition of the Vamsadhara project evacuees, the district administration, in cooperation with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), has decided to set up a skill development centre.
“We are going to focus on women and youngsters belonging to the SC, ST and BC communities for the training which will be imparted by the proposed skill development centre,” Joint Collector K.V.N. Chakradharbabu said at Hiramandalam village.
Collector K. Dhanunjaya Reddy had urged A.P. Skill Development Corporation CEO to help the trained persons land jobs.
IRCS district Chairman P. Jaganmohana Rao said that 60 women had been selected for a course in tailoring, embroidery and painting. “We will supply sewing machines and material for the candidates who successfully complete the three-month course,” he added.
Meanwhile, the district administration has planned to rope in the SC Corporation, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and Social Welfare Department to ensure livelihood options to the 7,104 displaced families. A meeting will be organized shortly in this regard, said Mr. Chakradharbabu.
