Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) : With the ever increasing requirement of skilled-youth in the rapidly growing IT and fashion related sectors, there is distinct rise in demand for skill education courses among new generation. To reduce the accelerating gap between skilled man power requirements and availability in the apparel industry, Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM).
The MOU was signed between Rajesh Kumar, IAS, Mission Director, UPSDM and Darlie Koshy, DG and CEO, ATDC on November 8, 2016 at UPSDM office, Lucknow. The MOU was signed in the presence of other senior officials of UPSDM & ATDC. UPSDM (Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission) has tied up to advance the skill sector in the state by offering 24 courses with the target to uplift 8000 unemployed youth in the next 3 years in all UP centres namely Noida, Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Agra, Unnao, Lucknow, Pratapgarh, Barabanki, Barailly, Shahjahanpur, Varanasi, Ajamgarh and Kannauj.
ATDC is also in the process of upgrading its Lucknow Centre to an ATDC Hub, having the capacity to train approximately 600 candidates per annum in short term as well as long term skill development courses in near future. “UPSDM has signed an MoU with ATDC under which the institution will provide youth training in apparel design and 80% of the young people in it will be provided employment. To provide skill training and employment opportunities to the youth, 17 Flexi MoUs have been signed”, said, Rajesh Kumar, IAS, Mission Director, UPSDM.
UPSDM is an integrated mission which combines the efforts of various state departments in achieving skill development targets for the state. UPSDM is the implementing agency for skill development targeted at enhancing employability in Uttar Pradesh, subsuming the targets of various State departments such as Rural Development, Urban Development, Labour, Minority Welfare, Social Welfare etc.
Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC), has emerged as India’s largest vocational training network for the apparel sector with over 200 ATDCs including 65 ATDC vocational institutes and over 135 ATDC- SMART Centres and skill camps present in major apparel clusters spread across 23 states including two centres in Northeast.
The Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC) under the aegis of AEPC was registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act 1860 at New Delhi with the mission to upgrade the technical skills of the human resources employed in the garment Industry. It had started 11 training centres in 1996. In the state of UP, ATDC has 13 centres including two hubs in Kanpur and Noida which are effectively operational.
