Guwahati : Minister of Industry and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary said that the government would soon open 200 skill centres across the State which will train 18,500 boys and girls in the first phase.Patowary, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of ‘The India Show’ organized by ITFAA, further said that skill training centres would train at least 96,000 youths in the second and third phases.
The Minister also informed that the government has already allotted 150 bighas of land in Mangaldoi for developing a skill city. He also said that the government is laying special stress on facilitating an investor-friendly atmosphere in the State.
Speaking as a guest of honour, adviser to the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya said the government should set up a skill university in the State to train the youths and make them employable.
“Learn a skill and earn a living should be our motto. Assam should not just be a corridor of development; it should be the hub of investment,” Dr Bhattacharya said.
While appreciating the investment initiatives of the government, Bhattacharya said that it is only through investments that our youths can get employment. “Assam needs a planned economic movement”, he added.
ITFAA president Jatin Hazarika and Chief General Manager, NE, State Bank of India PVSLN Murty were also present on the occasion among others.
