Kolkata : In what was described as a “model prevalent in Europe and the US”, the West Bengal Government has set the ball rolling for a programme on entrepreneurship in vocational (class IX-XII) school education.
Ashima Patra , minister for technical education and training, told a large group industry members present at the CII Skill Conclave 2016, the programme on entrepreneurship will be rolled out in the next academic session. The State Government is extremely keen to build a strong culture of entrepreneurship, the minister said.
Certification will be done either by the Sector Skill Council (SSC) or the National Council on Vocational Training. The idea is not just to impart industry-relevant and skill-based training, but is also to give the pass-outs pan-India acceptability, the Minister said.
Hridyesh Mohan , principal secretary, Technical Education and Training, said the students joining the vocational IX-XII stream will be taught as to how bankable schemes are constructed and project reports are prepared aside from the basics of banking, personal finance management, smart communications, etc. Faculty members will be hired on a contract basis. As part of its bid to skill 600,000 people every year, the State Government is looking to industry for help in framing the course curriculum and module, Mr Mohan added.
