Bihar state government would consider the idea of providing reservation for skill competition winners : Nitish Kumar

Patna : Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday said the state government would consider the idea of providing reservation in government jobs to the winners of skill competitions from Bihar on the lines of sports quota.

“It is a good idea. Our government will seriously consider to give state government jobs to such bright minds. The step will attract youth towards skill development,” Nitish said while felicitating the selected candidates who would represent the state in IndiaSkills Competition in their respective fields. The CM also gave Rs51,000 to the selected candidates.

The IndiaSkills Competition would be organized by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship from October 2 to 6 in New Delhi. Total 400 contestants from 27 states would participate in 46 skills, 8 traditional skills and 4 demo skills competition. Total 22 candidates from Bihar would participate in the competition.

Meanwhile, the directorate of employment and training under state labour resources department signed three MoUs with Astrom, Cisco and Talbrum to provide skill training to the state’s youth during the programme.

The CM also highlighted the social importance of skill development. “The power of skill is not limited to employment only, but it also helps in reducing differences in the society. Bihar government provides training to the youths on social behaviour under its Kushal Yuva Karyakram, for which Bihar Skill Development Mission is the nodal agency. If our youths are trained in how to behave properly in the society, it would automatically reduce social rift, leading to social harmony,” Nitish said.

State labour resources minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said: “Bihar government has set a target of training one crore youths by 2022. The skilled youths will no longer need to go elsewhere for jobs. We hope those going to represent the state in India Skills Competition will brighten the state’s image.”
