Gaya : A workshop on ‘Renewable energy and its growth potential’, jointly organized by the Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) and Vikalp Foundation, a non-profit organization, working in the field of alternative development strategy, was held here on Wednesday.
The workshop highlighted the efficacy of the new energy policy and ways in which it will help Bihar add 3,433 MW of power from renewable energy sources into its generation capacity in the next five years.
The workshop also aimed to help design training programmes in the state to train electricians and mechanics on solar technology. As per the policy, various skill development programmes will be designed by the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Authority (BREDA) and National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE).
Electricians, mechanics and other skilled workers would be imparted training in segments like installation, operation and maintenance of solar projects, solar products testing, solar resource assessment, refurbishment and detailed project report preparations, etc.
CEED programme officer Pooja Kumari said, “To accelerate renewable energy development in the state, the government has formulated a road map. Gaya has massive potential for setting up solar energy projects in and around the region, due to the availability of large plots of land. This will not just help generate clean, sustainable and climate-friendly electricity, but will also help boost the local economy through job creation. This will also help to promote horticulture, agriculture and aquaculture in the region.”
