Over 50,000 get enrolled in Kaushal Mela in Bihar in just two months : R K Singh

Patna : Altogether 54 Kaushal Melas – daylong event for skill development of youth –were organised by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in the state between April and May this year, Union minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship R K Singh said in Lok Sabha on Monday.

“Under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), there is a provision of orientation of trainees in the camp mode. These camps provide a mandatory orientation of 12 hours and wherever necessary provide bridge course training for up to 68 hours to candidates,” Singh said while replying to a question raised by JD(U) MP Dr Alok Kumar Suman on skill development camps for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, other backward castes, girls and women.

As per an annexure submitted along with reply of the question, altogether 10,819 women, 35,915 OBC, 3,242 SC and 641 ST candidates were enrolled in the Kaushal Melas held in Bihar. The Kaushal Melas were organised district-wise for building awareness, counselling and mobilisation of candidates. More than 50,000 candidates were given orientation training and 39,000 of them got certificates after assessment, the minister said.

Meanwhile, Bihar Skill Development Mission, a wing of state labour resources department, will organise a three-day event from July 13 at Gyan Bhavan in Patna to mark the celebrations of Vishwa Yuva Kaushal Diwas, which is observed on July 15. Labour resources department officials said competitions would be held in 38 trades as part of the programme.
