Patna : Thousands of candidates across the state on Tuesday boycotted the re-examination of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) second and third semester papers. They were demanding evaluation of their answers sheets of the examinations they had appeared for in February and August this year.
The examinations were earlier cancelled after the second and third semester papers had been found leaked. Total five examinations were cancelled in August when the invigilators found the printed answer sheets from the examinees in the examination halls. Total 1.14 lakh examinees of second and third semesters had to appear for drawing and electrical papers at 218 examination centres across Bihar on Tuesday.
Labour resources minister Vijay Kumar Sinha told this newspaper that the ruckus was, in fact, created by a few ITIs, which indulged in malpractices and distributed fake certificates to their students.
“The department will take stern action against such institutes and we have written to the central government as well about the discrepancies in examination. The affiliation of 39 institutes, where discrepancies were found, will be cancelled soon. Some officials of the department were also found guilty in the paper leak. We will not spare anyone and strict action will be taken against them,” the minister said.
Sinha said the department has requested the central government to take online examinations of ITI from next year. The ITI examination is conducted by Directorate General of Training (DGT) of ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship across the country for semester 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The examinees in Patna blocked Chitkohra roundabout for more than two hours. One Saurabh Sinha of second semester said it was the third time they were appearing for the examination. “Why we should pay for the lapses on the part of state government in safeguard the question papers,” he asked.
The examinees also blocked Biharsharif-Rajgir road, Biharsharif-Nawada NH-31, NH-31A near KST College under Sohsarai PS area and Hospital Mor under Laheri PS area in Nalanda district for more than an hour. Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protesters. However, no one was reported to have sustained any injuries.
Meanwhile, Nalanda DM Thiyagarajan SM assured over 3,000 students that those who wanted to appear in different papers to be held in the next two days need not fear the agitating students as the district administration has made foolproof arrangements for their safety at all the centres in Biharsharif. The remaining papers will be held on October 24 and 25.
