Bhubaneswar : A career counseling cell was inaugurated at the Utkal University on Saturday. The facility will be used to provide career and job-related guidance to all students of the university.
The cell was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Ashok Das and General Manager of SBI Anil Johari. The State Government had provided Rs 12.5 lakh for setting up of the cell that will look into soft skill development, information exchange on professional placements, enhancing communication skills and training the students, among other things. The cell would give ample opportunities for aspiring students to explore job prospects. The active participation of institutional experts from the agencies and HR firms could give greater on-site experience, said the VC.
Last year, the State Government had decided to open career counseling cells in universities and colleges in a bid to enhance the students’ reach for opportunities and prepare them for future challenges. It was decided that apart from Utkal, these cells would be opened in Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rama Devi Women’s universities. The budget for each institution was fixed at Rs 18 lakh while the Government will support for five years.
“The cell along with the equal opportunity centre of the university will organize classes on setting goals for life and motivation. The centres will also arrange programmes to avoid stress among students when they appear for interviews and examinations,” said PG Council Chairman of university RK Bal.
The Utkal University in association with city-based Institute of Media Studies (IMS) and ICCR, New Delhi will organize a three-day international conference on ‘Indian Cultural Heritage: Past, Present and Future’ from March 18 to 20 on its campus.
While several scholars, experts and researchers in the field of culture and heritage from SAARC countries will share their thoughts at the conference, more than 250 delegates across the country will attend the meet, informed Bal.
