124 government school vocational streams students got selected for jobs in first-ever job fair

Chandigarh : As many as 124 Class XII students from vocational streams have been selected by different companies in the first-ever job fair organised for students by the UT education department.

Although the data was yet to be compiled, officials said most of the students who secured jobs were from IT courses.

Calling it a major achievement, the department said the success would help in motivating other students to opt for vocational streams, which is often viewed as a stream for academically weaker students. “This is not the right notion, although. We have had students in the past who scored above 80% and still opted for vocational subjects,” said an official.

The job fair was organised by Samagra Shiksha at Government Model Senior Secondary School in Sector 10, in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on January 31.

Sofi Zahoor, chairman, CII, said skill courses are a great step towards meeting the demands of the industry that is totally related to a specific trade, occupation or vocation.

The job fair had witnessed around 250 students of Class XII skill courses from government schools of the city. CII had brought companies like AFV Hospitality Private Ltd, Park Plaza, Falcon Garden Tools Private Limited, Competent Synergies Private Limited, Xeam Ventures Private Limited and Exim Enterprises among others.
