Chandigarh : School and college dropouts, besides economically weaker and unemployed youth, will get free job training at 12 skill development centres that Chandigarh Skill Development Mission (CSDM) recently launched. The course streams are planned under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. Institutes such as NITTTR, CCET, and Indo-Swiss Training Centre are mission partners and skill providers. For reaching out to more people, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) has involved nine private training centres as well.
All these centers are connected through videoconferencing. On Monday, 1,000 students enrolled under the scheme were addressed by mission director Sachin Rana, who is also special secretary for technical education. He said: “Skill India Mission is not just a programme to generate employment. It will also instill confidence in the youth of India.” The training centres offer courses in web development, DEO, retail telecom, CNC turning, fitting, and welding etc. A two-day workshop on ‘State skill development mission to function as inspection agency’ started at Government Polytechnic for Women, Sector 10. It included interactive sessions with inspection teams for quality control.
