On World Youth Skills Day, Chhattisgarh Govt. organized ‘Chhattisgarh Skills Olympiad 2018’

Raipur : The youth of State after becoming skilled through skill development programme would be pioneer for other youth in the country. If once a person is trained in particular skill, then for life the skills remain in the hands, said Chief Minister Raman Singh.

He was addressing as chief guest on occasion of ‘World Youth Skills Day’ event organised at Raipur on Sunday. He gave away awards to the winners of different competitions under ‘Chhattisgarh Skills Olympiad 2018’.

Technical education and development minister Prem Prakash Pandey said that it is second year in state that youths having undergone skill development are part of ‘Skill Olympiad’. This time, it had started from the block level to district to divisional level where in 12 trades, first, second and third prizes are being given to winners. The first prize carry cash of Rs 25,000, the second prize carries Rs 20,000 and third prize carry Rs 15000. A citation is also given.

Agriculture minister Brijmohan Agrawal, PWD minister Rajesh Munat and MLA Shrichand Sundarani were present. Chief Minister said that as per dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the dream of skill India is being ensured by youth of state by gaining skills through training. Chhattisgarh is first state in country where youth can as per choice receive training as it has been made mandatory. In year 2014, as Livelihood College, Dantewada it started in state. In countries like Japan, China and Korea along with other developed countries, around 80 to 90 percent population is skilled. Each person with present work have tendency for creative work can build his hidden talent and capacity through skill development training. In state, now in all 27 districts and through 1300 registered private training providers, the skill training is being imparted. All these are short period courses, said Chief Minister.

He further said that around 4.80 lakh irrigation pumps, lakhs of hand pumps, increasing two-wheeler and four-wheelers also open avenues where there is less number of skilled mechanics are available.

Technical education and Skill development minister Prem Prakash Pandey said that now outlook in society is changing were those working with mind and hand are considered equal.

There was a time when job was being linked to degrees but then there was no unemployment but there was need for skill hands also. In year 2013, Chhattisgarh became first state to make a law for skill development in the country. Minister states that training in around 650 trades is being imparted in both government and private sector where as 4 lakh youth have already undergone training. Two lakh are already linked with employment through placement.

Skill Development department secretary Dr Kamalpreet Singh placed the reports. An exhibition of selected candidates and institutions from Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Sarguja and Bastar division was organised.
