New Delhi : The Delhi government has decided to start 25 World Class Skill Centres (WCSC) across the national Capital, with each centre likely to have a full capacity of more than 1000 students. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced the decision in his office recently.
Recently, the WCSC run by the Delhi government – in collaboration with the Singapore government – organised a ceremony to give away job certificates to 200 of its students who completed a certificate course in skill development.
The centre offers four one-year courses, namely Hospitality Operations, Retail Services, Software Testing and Finance. The institute achieved 100 percent placement, something that comes as an important push to the government’s efforts to offer skill-based training to ensure that students’ are employable after the course. Out of the 180 students, 89 are from the North East,” Sisodia said.
“Jobs are the biggest problems for our youth. So 25 more skill centres on the same model will be opened in January 2018,” said Sisodia, who also holds the Finance portfolio. “We decided to start the six-month certificate courses, in collaboration with big business houses and the corporate sector players, for 12th pass out students. Our government is seriously mulling to start Tourism Diploma and the Computer Diploma Courses,” he added.
