Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) instructed institutions to establish ‘Grievance Redressal Forum’

Aurangabad : The state Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has reminded institutions under its jurisdiction about setting up different grievance redressal forums meant for students and staffers. In a latest communication, the DTE asserted that no grievance should reach to it directly before getting heard before by the panel of respective institutions.

“It is expected that grievances of students, their parents and staff should have redressal at institution-level first. Such redressal should take place without consuming time. While deciding matters at DTE level, findings of institution level probe would be taken into account first,” the communication read.

Anti-ragging committee and panels for redressal of grievances of students and female employees are some of the important forums that need to be set up at colleges on mandatory basis.

The DTE has also asked for giving publicity for these platforms by raising display boards on campuses. Santosh Bhosle, principal of MIT, said institutions should give top priority for setting up redressal panels and also ensure that these forums remain active and vibrant.

“The institution-level panel can be seen as immediate help for stakeholders and therefore should be raised and strengthened,” he said.

Reacting on DTE move, student activist Tukaram Saraf said it is wrong on the part of the DTE to remind colleges about setting up mandatory panels. “The original orders asking for setting up the panels were issued long back. Instead of taking stern action against colleges for not showing compliance, the DTE is meekly asking for compliance,” he said.

Saraf also said the DTE should publish names of colleges that still have not formed desired panels. The DTE, Aurangabad, has nearly 215 institutions — including engineering colleges, pharmacy institutions and B-schools — under its jurisdiction in eight districts of Marathwada.
