Margao : Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Saturday reiterated his government’s seriousness in ensuring that unemployed youth in rural areas of the state benefited from various government schemes, financial incentives and interest-free loans.
He was speaking as chief guest at the ‘Apprenticeship Bharti Mela’ organized by the directorate of skill development and entrepreneurship at the Government College of Commerce and Economics, Margao. Parsekar also handed out offer letters to 963 Industrial Training Institute (ITI) trainees, who would commence their apprenticeship from Monday at various industries, hotels, government departments etc.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s boost for skill development among the youth of the nation, Parsekar highlighted his government’s efforts towards meeting the PM’s mandate, adding that the ITI’s infrastructure would be upgraded by his government.
Pointing out to the rise in unemployed youth availing of the Chief Minister Rojgar Yojana (CMRY) in the state, which is an average of 100-150 persons a month, the CM spoke of how the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) had been visiting rural unemployed youth with melas, which were conducted in eight to ten constituencies.
Parsekar felicitated Margao ITI principal Edwin Fernandes for being awarded the ‘Best ITI Principal’ and for also bagging the ‘Best ITI’ award for the institution.
Secretary of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Virendra Kumar, directorate of skill development and entrepreneurship director Aleixo F da Costa and Institution Management Committee (IMC) chairman, Margao Government ITI, Manish Gosalia also spoke at the function. State minister for skill development and entrepreneurship, Pandurang (Deepak) Dhavalikar was conspicuous by his absence.
