Gujarat Technological University gets nod to offer skill development courses for Swachchh Bharat Mission

Ahmedabad : Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has signed a MoU with a German company to set up a Centre of Excellence that will contribute to the Swachchh Bharat Mission through means of technology and skill development.

To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put a focus on sanitation, the National Skill Development Council has given a green signal to GTU to offer three types of courses. While one of the course will be for entrepreneurs for manufacturing cleaning equipment and materials, another training will be held for managers and supervisors of hotels and corporates who have direct control over cleanliness. The third training will be for the housekeeping staff.

“Recently, Swachchhata Hi Seva campaign was organized on the third anniversary of Swachchh Bharat Mission. To fulfil the dream of Gandhiji, our Prime Minister had started this mission 3 years ago. Getting inspiration from the mission, GTU has made efforts to contribute as part of social responsibility. Now, we are establishing a centre of excellence with the help of a German company.

Since the cleaning sector is unorganized in India, we will bring a world-class technology. We are planning to connect Akhil Bhartiya safai kamdar unions in this initiative,” said Dr Navin Sheth, Vice-Chancellor of GTU.
