Chandigarh : Haryana Director General of Prisons K Selvaraj inaugurated a first-of-its-kind skill development centre for jail inmates at Gurugram district jail.
The Centre established by the Prison department under the Prime Minister Skill Development Scheme, in collaboration with the Jaquar Foundation and the Art of Living. It will produce about 100 trained plumbers every year.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Selvaraj urged the inmates to enthusiastically participate in training programmes, being conducted in jail and avail its benefits to the full, so that they can contribute to the society, after serving their respective jail terms.
The idea behind the setting up of various centres, was to professionally train inmates in different fields. As many as 30 inmates could get plumber training together at this centre. The course will be of three months duration. After that, all successful inmates would get a certificate, following an examination. A tool-kit will also be given to inmates, after they walk free from jail, he added.
