50,000 Himachali youths to be imparted industry skills : Bikram Singh

Shimla : Over 50,000 youths of Himachal Pradesh will be imparted industry-oriented skills in the next four years, while as many as 12,000 students will be trained in employability skills. Industry and Technical Education Minister Bikram Singh said this at a workshop being organised by the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) of Singapore here.

Bikram Singh said, “Human resources of any country have to be developed in order to achieve economic growth. Talent is valued high only if skill training is available to people, especially the youth. In this era of technological advancements and innovations, skills and capabilities should be honed to match the requirements of the market-driven businesses and professions”.

He said that the state government was committed towards the welfare of all sections of society. “Various developmental schemes and programmes have been started to facilitate the people of the state. The Kaushal Vikas Nigam is the primary implementing agency of the Himachal Pradesh Skills Development Project. Every person possesses a unique skill that has to be identified through a mechanism developed for the purpose”.

The minister said that the ‘Skill India’ and ‘Make in India’ programmes had been successful in the country and the state government was also working hard on the same pattern through the nigam.

He said, “Over 50,000 youths will be imparted industry-oriented skills in the next four years. As many as 12,000 students of universities and colleges will be trained in employability skills. As many as 12 government colleges are executing a three-year bachelor of vocation degree programme with integrated on-the-job training. About 7,500 graduating students of third year will be provided short-term training under the Graduate Add-On programme”.

Bikram said, “Fifty ITIs are being upgraded. Equipment upgrade for 25 trades and capacity building of the faculty are also being done. Nine model career centres have been opened and modernisation of employment exchanges and linkage with the National Career Service Portal are being carried out”.

He added, “Seven rural livelihood centres and six city livelihood centres will impart training to 8,000 youths. Besides, the state government has opened a centre of excellence equipped with state-of-the-art technology and modern training pedagogy for holistic training and a women’s polytechnic at Rehan in Kangra”.
