Skill Centre acquired by IIT Mandi for skill development

Mandi: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi has made an exciting acquisition by taking over the Skill Development Centre in Una. This development was announced during the G20 – S20 event held at IIT Mandi, where experts gathered to discuss skill-based education for inclusive growth.

The Skill Development Centre in Una will now operate as a satellite center for skill development, catering to the wider public. This collaboration between IIT Mandi and the Himachal Pradesh government aims to empower the youth and create more opportunities for skill development.

During the inaugural address at the event, Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Director of IIT Mandi, emphasized the crucial role of skill development in achieving an Atmanirbhar Bharat, or a self-reliant India. He highlighted the institute’s ongoing initiatives in areas such as bioenergy, climate-controlled agriculture, and biomedicine, which aim to create a skilled workforce and promote entrepreneurial opportunities for the country’s youth.

Mukesh Agnihotri, the Deputy Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, who served as the chief guest at IIT Mandi’s G20-S20 meet, expressed his support for the collaboration between the state government and IIT Mandi. He stressed the importance of effective implementation of skill development projects to benefit the youth of the state and the entire nation.

Shri Agnihotri also announced the handover of the Skill Development Centre in Una to IIT Mandi, further strengthening their partnership. The G20 – S20 event featured insightful discussions on various skill development-related topics, including vocational education, the future of work, and inclusive growth.

Experts at the event emphasized the significance of skill development in driving economic growth, reducing unemployment, and addressing the skills gap across different industries.
