Bhubaneswar : In a workshop on “Improving Employability through Skill Development in ITIs” job offer letters were distributed to altogether 396 ITI Trainees of Berhampur, Cuttack and Puri.
These job offer letters were given by companies namely, LAVA, INDUTECH, PEEKEY STEL, AGI GLASPAC, CONTNENTAL BRAKE SYSTEM and S.A. INFOSYS PVT. LTD. The highlight of the placement was 34 job offer letters extended to girl trainees. The workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister SD&TE and FS&CW, Shri Sanjaya Kumar Das Burma in presence of Dr Pradeep Panigrahy, Hon’ble Minister Higher Education, S&T and Rural Development, Shri Subroto Bagchi, Chairman, Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA), Dr Ramesh Chandra Chyau Pattnaik, Hon’ble MLA, Berhampur and Shri L.N. Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary, SD&TE Department at the Berhampur University auditorium.
Inaugurating the workshop, Hon’ble Minister Shri Sanjaya Kumar Das Burma stated that the youth by joining the ITIs and Skill Development Programmes can improve their employ-ability immensely. He stated that against the target of skilling 11 lakh youth, we have already skilled so far 3.45 lakh youth and in the remaining 3 years, government has programmed to skill 8 lakh youth all over the state.
On this occasion, Minister Dr Pradeep Panigrahy stressed on the need to minimize the “skill gap” to improve employ-ability of the youth. He stated that in order to reduce this gap, a continuous dialogue with industries is necessary.
Shri Subroto Bagchi, Chairman, Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) motivated the students by presenting cases of various role models, he came across during his visit to various ITIs. He stressed on the need of enhancing enrollment of girl students in ITIs to at least 50%. He emphasized on developing the brand “Skilled in Odisha” to capture the attention of recruiters globally.
Shri L.N. Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary, SD&TE Department stated that skill development is the key to enhance employability as it in the short run, better equips youth to find decent jobs and in the long run, reduces poverty. It also empowers youth and enhances their self-esteem. He stressed on the need of optimizing the existing good infrastructure in the ITIs. He stated that shortly the ITIs will also be associated in conducting short-term Skill Development Programmes.
On this occasion Shri Balwant Singh, IAS, DTET introduced 10 ITI toppers of the State Level Skill Competition, who were felicitated by the dignitaries. They will represent Odisha in the National Level Skill Competition to be held between 15 – 17th July, 2016 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
