Jalandhar: “Satgur Kabir Construction Skill Development Centre”, the first skill development training centre of district built at a cost of INR 10 lakh, was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister Bhagat Chunni Lal on 120 Feet Road in Basti Sheikh here today.
Minister of State for Social Security and Development and BJP state chief Vijay Sampla, too, attended the event and said the centre would help in strengthening the Union Government’s “Make in India” campaign in the region. Speaking on the occasion, Bhagat Chunni Lal said the Punjab Building and Others Construction Welfare Board had also bought land in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Mohali to construct more such centres. The centre would be constructed in 2.16 acres and completed by 2016, he added.
He said around 1,600 people would be given skill development training in various trades every year. The centre would also have night shelters for the migratory laborers to stay at night. Principal Secretary Roshan Shankaria said the state government had recently launched Bhagat Puran Singh Insurance Scheme for the laborers and had made smart cards for the same. He said that under the scheme, a person could avail free treatment up to Rs 50,000 and could get an insurance amount up to Rs 5 lakh in case of an accident or death. He added that in the year 2015-16, Rs 131 crore was spent on various welfare schemes on laborers and 78,362 people had availed the benefit so far.
