Behrampur (Odisha) : The industrial training institute (ITI), Berhampur, signed a memorandum of understanding with public sector undertaking Indian Rare Earths Limited (IREL) to impart skill development training to the ITI students.
In the first phase, 42 students of fitter and electrical trades will undergo training at the IREL’s Odisha Sands Complex (OSCOM) unit located at Matikhala near Chhatrapur, 25km from here. The MoU was signed between OSCOM chief AK Mohapatra and ITI principal Rajat Panigrahi and is valid for five years.
The MoU is the part of the Centre’s newly-introduced dual training system (DTS), one of the key components of the Skill India Mission (SIM). As part of the mission, students will learn theory part in the classroom and will be imparted industry-oriented training in the nearby industries. The students will earn while learning in the dual system of training, official sources said. While the state government has selected 10 ITIs in the state to introduce the dual training system, ITI Berhampur was the first to introduce the programme, the principal claimed.
“We will provide 70% wage of an unskilled laborer to the trainer during the training period every month,” said Mohapatra. The Centre will provide Rs 1,500 a student per month to the industry,” he said, adding, “While the Centre has selected 10 trades for the dual training system, we have selected two of them.” The students, who have joined the ITI this year for the two-year course, have been selected to undergo the dual training. The duration of the training in the industry would be around nine months, he added.
Each student is expected to earn over Rs 4,000 per month during their training period, the principal said. The OSCOM has also agreed to provide buses to the students to ferry them to the plant site.
