Jharkhand CM to announce skill development policy soon, Ranchi to have World Class Skill Development Center

Ranchi : Chief minister Raghubar Das promised to announce a skill development policy soon that would focus on providing employment opportunities to state youths as per international standards.

Das was addressing a gathering of over 150 people at the Employers’ Conclave organized by Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society at a city hotel on Friday.

The children of Jharkhand will make their mark at the international level after going through skill training. A world-class skill development centre at the cost of Rs 60 crore will be developed with the help of a Singapore-based company ITE, at Ranchi, he said.

“We are already in touch with international institutions and will soon sign a long-term MoU with them to run the skill development centres,” he added. He further urged the skill development partners to provide nursing training to girls and requested employers to create low-paid jobs for migrant labourers.

“Focus on skill development has opened new avenues by increasing employability chances among youths,” said education and skill development minister Neera Yadav.

Departmental secretary Ajoy Kumar Singh said the state had planned to hand over 25,000 job offer letters to skilled youths on the occasion of International Youth Day on January 12, 2018, at a summit in Hotwar.

The employers and training partners, who were also present at the conclave, had high opinions for the GenY youths and called them punctual, sincere and attentive.

“We initially planned to recruit 150 youths but doubled the number to 300 and will soon go up to 1,000,” said Rajiv Kumar Sharma, manager of JBM Auto, adding they had recruited 14 local girls in the manufacturing unit.

“About 40 per cent of 850 workers that we recruited are women and all are very sincere,” said Gourav Sehgal, vice president of Orient Craft, adding they plan to recruit about 3,000 more women next year for their new garment plant near Hotwar.

Sushila Sharma of West Corporation said they had recruited about 1,200 youths and would increase the number to 3,000 by April 2018.

Prakash Singh of Tata Steel suggested including spoken English in skill development training. “English is the language of trade and commerce and so today’s youths should be fluent in the language,” said Singh to which the chief minister replied that steps had been already in the matter.
