Ranchi: The state has started the process of selecting youths who will participate in WorldSkills 2019 to be held in the ancient city of Kazan in Russia next year.
The WorldSkills competition is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence event in the world. The competitors represent the best of their peers and are selected from skill competitions in WorldSkills member countries and regions. They demonstrate technical abilities both individually and collectively to execute specific tasks for which they study and/or perform in their workplace
Jharkhand Skill Development Mission Society (JSDMS) will organize skill competitions at the district and state levels next month to select the best candidates. While district-level competitions will be held during April 5-6, state-level competitions would be held on April 25 and 26.
“The competitions would be organised in 15 categories such as bakery, cooking, beauty therapy, fashion technology and car painting,” Amar Jha, chief executive officer (CEO) of JSDMS, said.
The winners in each of those 15 categories at the district level will be given a cash award of Rs 25,000 while runners-up will get Rs 11,000, Jha said and added that the prize money at state level will go up to Rs 51,000 and Rs 21,000, respectively. The state-level winners will then be sent to compete at the zonal level and then at national level based on their performance.
“We have set tough tasks for these competitions in consultation with the National Skill Development Corporation,” Jha said. He added that the questions would be on a par with the international standard.
Jha said candidates born on or after January 1, 1997 are required to get themselves registered for the competition at hunar.jharkhand.gov.in latest by March 31. He said the society had already put up advertisements in newspapers and a radio jingle would be broadcast later this month.
The 45th edition of WorldSkills slated for August 2019 will have over 50 skill categories and participants from over 70 countries are expected to compete.
While WorldSkills 2017 was held in Abu Dhabi, Kazan was chosen as the host of the next biennial at a meeting of WorldSkills’ general assembly during WorldSkills 2015 in Sao Paulo (Brazil).
