Mysuru : JSS Mahavidyapeeta technical education joint director B R Umakant has said that Centre aims at training 500 million people by 2022 through its Skill Development Programme. He said while making a presentation on ‘Skill development for young engineers to reform the core sector: Vision 2025′ organized by The Institute of Engineers (Mysuru chapter) as part of Engineers’ Day celebrations on Saturday. Umakant said imparting skills among youngsters is key to India becoming the superpower. “Twenty-five ministries, which are working on Skill India Programme , will spend Rs 25,000 crore for the purpose,” he added.
The training programme is the collective initiative of both state and the central governments. Chief minister, being the head of the ministry of skill, will allocate Rs 500 crore to train the youths in various disciplines.
“As per latest data, the central government has partnered with 267 industrial firms and trained around 80 lakh youths through 6,952 training centres across India,” he added. Rooman Technologies deputy general manager V Jayanth and TIE (Mysuru chapter) chairman T H Udayahshankara were present.
