Karnataka Chief Minister stresses need for skill development of youth

Kochi: Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday said skill development should be given priority to overcome the challenge of unemployment.

He was speaking during the inauguration of 12th ‘Ponthooval MP Merit Award’ distribution function here. “Unemployment rate is going up and students should prepare themselves to find their way,” Mr Kumaraswamy said.

Speaking on the occasion, Shashi Tharoor, MP, urged students to become ‘different.’ “Around five lakh engineering graduates are passing out of colleges in India. However, only 62% of them are getting jobs. Students should think and act differently,” Mr. Tharoor said.

The award, instituted by K.C. Venugopal, MP, was presented to top performing students and schools in SSLC and Plus Two examinations. Former Union Minister Shatrughan Sinha and others spoke.
