Karnataka Govt. planning to establish university for skill development

Ballari : In a bid to improve the employability of degree holders, the State government is considering establishing a university to impart skill development, said Minister for Higher Education Basavaraj Rayaraddi on Friday.

He was speaking at the fifth convocation of Vijayanagar Sri Krishnadevaraya (VSK) University here. He expressed concern over the fact that not more over 4,000 engineering graduates, out of the total 80,000 coming out of the 217 engineering colleges in the State, were getting jobs (mainly owing to lack of skills). “In order to increase employability, we want to set up a skill development university, which would be a first in the country. A decision on this will be taken soon,” he said.

Mr. Rayaraddi also said the government was for giving full autonomy to universities and bringing total transparency, right from the appointment of Vice-Chancellor to students’ welfare measures, by making suitable amendments to the Universities Act.
