Karnataka Govt to introduce skill development course for BA course students

Bengaluru : Considering the unemployability among graduates, the State Department of Higher Education has decided to introduce a skill development course along with the existing Bachelor of Arts course.

This will be implemented from the next academic year at all the government and aided degree colleges in the state. Speaking about it after a meeting with department officials, Higher Education Minister GT Devegowda said, “As per the data available with our department, lakhs of graduates are unemployed. This problem is especially seen among BA graduates. Taking this issue up, we have decided to incorporate skill development course with the existing general degree course.”

The minister also said the government will give priority to improve the quality of education at higher education institutions and universities. “Over 102 government degree colleges do not have own buildings and are struggling to function from tiny rented buildings. We need to set this right first,” he said.

However, to get financial assistance for the development of infrastructure, the department of higher education is in discussion with NABARD and World Bank. “To provide infrastructure to government colleges, we have approached NABARD and World Bank. In this regard, we’ve had a few rounds of meetings with officials,” the minister said.
