Mysuru : The Chief Minister’s Kaushalya Karnataka Scheme has been receiving an overwhelming response in the district. Though the target was to enrol 25,000 youth, over 35,271, including several engineering graduates, have registered for the training programmes.
While 15,181 women have applied for training, 20,090 men have sought training in 193 courses. Nearly 27,070 candidates from rural Mysuru and 8,201 urban youths have applied. As many as 10,702 of them belong to Schedule Caste, 4,658 to Schedule Tribes, and 1,165 to minority communities while 18,746 general candidates have applied for a variety of courses. Of them, 494 physically challenged candidates have applied for training.
The demand for air condition specialist, accessory fitter, 2w-delivery associate, accounts executive (recording and reporting), and accounting executive (payroll) training programme is high, with 6,091 candidates enrolling for the courses.
According to sources, a large number of engineering graduates have applied for the training programmes. The Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, which was established in 2016-17, empowers youths by imparting training. The department has imparted training to 1.6 lakh youths last year and this year, it has set a target to train 5 lakh youth. Without specific training and skills, it has become difficult for youth to get jobs. The government thus, organizes skill development programmes as per the requirements of the industries, an official said.
The department would give training to unemployed youth aged between 18 and 35 years in 39 different subjects.
Kaushalya Karnataka is an ambitious skill development scheme of the state government under which unemployed youth are provided skill training. The objective of the scheme is to increase the employability of youth by enhancing their skills through industry-ready skill development programmes. The government has launched a dedicated website www.kaushalkar.com from where detailed information can be availed about the scheme. Youth can also register for training.
