Kozikhode : State government will set up seven new Industrial Training Institute (ITIs) in the state, minister for labour and skill development, T P Ramakrishnan has said.
Speaking after inaugurating the new workshop lab and hostel building of the Kozhikode Government ITI at Malikkadavu near here on Tuesday, the minister said that the new ITIs would come up at Vellamunda in Wayanad, Peelicode and Kuttikkol in Kasaragod, Panniyannur in Kannur Mayyanad in Kollam, Thuravoor in Ernakulam and Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram.
He said that government has already set up nine ITIs during the last two years. The minister said that the government was planning to help outstanding students in ITIs to go for training in foreign countries.
“We have been able to help 6669 students secure jobs through the job fairs and the placement cells at Government ITIs have provided employment to 3727 students. A labour bank will be set up in association with Kerala Academy for Skill Excellence and Employability Centres to meet the shortage of skilled personnel in micro, small and medium enterprises,” he added.
Ramakrishnan said that steps are on to convert the Kozhikode ITI into international standards.
“The government is planning to transform all ITIs in the state into international standards. Smart classrooms and new teaching methodologies would be introduced in the institutes,” he said.
