Thiruvananthapuram : Kudumbashree played a significant role in relief operations when flood ravaged the State a few months ago. Now, it is aiding the reconstruction efforts by helping families that lost their means of livelihood during the period.
Arise (Acquiring resilience and identity through self-employment), a State-level campaign, has been launched by Kudumbashree to extend free skill training to 50,000 flood-affected families so that they can find new avenues of income.
Ten sectors have been identified after a State-level survey in October to ascertain the areas where labour is scarce and those in which Kudumbashree women wanted to get trained in. These include data entry, plumbing, electronic repairing, electrical works, agriculture-related work, laundry and ironing, sales, housekeeping, day care and so on.
Registration begins
Campaign activities have begun in all districts. Registration got under way at the community development societies on December 15. “The response has been positive. The training, through government-accredited training agencies and Kudumbashree-empanelled training agencies, will begin in January and continue till the end of the financial year. Those living in areas unaffected by the floods can also become part of the programme, besides men from the Kudumbashree network.
