Thiruvananthapuram : A student support centre is one of the best ways by which exploitation in the employment sector can be ended, Minister for Local Self-Government K.T. Jaleel has said.
He was inaugurating the student support centre of the skill training programme, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gramin Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY), being implemented in Kerala through Kudumbasree, here on Tuesday.
Kerala has created a model for DDUGKY for the entire nation to follow by creating a student support centre, which includes a migration support centre, job portal and call centre, Dr. Jaleel said. Under DDUGKY, a person is given skill training in the area of his choice and aptitude so that he can get a job in that sector. The portal will inform people about job prospects at home and help employers find people with the right qualifications.
Under DDUGKY, which gives skill training and employment to rural youth between 15 and 35 years, Kudumbasree has trained 35, 568 persons. Of these, 20,564 got jobs. For the best implementation of the project, Kudumbasree had won the third place at the national level in 2016-17 and second place in 2017-18. The Union Ministry of Rural Development had also allowed an additional grant of Rs. 200 crore to Kudumbasree for giving skill training to another 20,000 persons.
