Leh: Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhadeve convened a District Skill Committee (DSC) meeting to review and discuss the district’s skill development plans. The meeting was aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and quality of ongoing skill training programs in the region.
During the meeting, the member secretary of the skill committee provided an overview of the various skill development initiatives being implemented. These include skill training programs in colleges as part of the New Education Policy, where a wide range of skills are being imparted. The secretary proposed that these training programs be regularly monitored by the DSC to assess their quality and impact. He also suggested that implementing departments should take charge of this monitoring process.
Key topics of discussion included career counselling, promotion of self-employment, and capacity building, all as part of the district’s broader skill development strategy. Deputy Commissioner Sukhadeve emphasized the importance of career counselling for students in Leh and directed the Technical Education and Skill Development Department to coordinate efforts with the Employment Department to ensure comprehensive support.
A significant issue raised during the meeting was the lack of a unified system for tracking training programs. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the committee to establish a centralized monitoring system where all data related to skill development across departments could be uploaded and updated monthly for the DSC’s review.
Additionally, the District Social Welfare Officer proposed introducing specialized skill development programs for people with disabilities. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this initiative will be submitted for further consideration.
The DSC meeting marks a step forward in enhancing skill development initiatives in Leh, aligning with the district’s efforts to build a stronger, more employable workforce.
