Pune: The department of skill development and entrepreneurship has set up a committee to assess the process of setting up skill-development universities in the state.
The seven-member committee headed by commissioner of the department would look into how such universities could impart holistic skill education to the students, a government resolution issued in this regard stated. The panel would have representatives from the state higher education department, law and judiciary department, and experts from the academic field, among others.

“The committee will make draft rules to set up financed and self-financed skill universities. It will also provide a framework for providing approval and recognition in terms of certificates, diplomas and degrees for the courses in these institutes. Universities could send their proposal for deemed status to the University Grants Commission,” joint secretary of the department of skill development and entrepreneurship and a member of the panel, Suvarna Kharat, said.
