Imphal : To conduct a skill mapping exercise in Manipur for the returnees during the nationwide lockdown, Manipur Society for Skill Development (MSSD) under the Department of Labour & Employment, Government of Manipur launched a website (www.mssd.in) on Saturday.
Launching the website at New Secretariat Office in Imphal, labour & employment minister Dr Thokchom Radheshyam said it has been developed for online data collection of skills/work experience of the COVID-19 returnees of the State.
The function was attended by the additional chief secretary of Labour & Employment, Letkhogin Haokip; additional secretary of Labour & Employment, Th Chitra; mission director, Manipur Society for Skill Development, Kh Diana Devi and officials concerned.

Stating that it is a crucial time for the State, as challenges of economic downturn are being faced due to COVID-19 pandemic, the minister also appealed to the COVID – 19 returnee citizens to fill up the online skill data registration form by visiting the website www.mssd.in and register their skill data.
He expressed that the collected skill data will also facilitate government policy making through discussions with key stakeholders.
He stressed that the website will be focused towards skill mapping of the citizens of Manipur who have returned to the state, after giving up their respective jobs, due to COVID-19 pandemic.
He added that as per data of category wise returnees available, the returnees were earlier employed in different sectors such as restaurants/hotels, private companies, retail, health care, salon/parlours, BPOs, airlines, private banks, among others.

He further said the government is committed to provide every possible support to COVID-19 returnees of the State and the challenges they are facing due to job losses.
Replying to a query, Radheshyam who also holds Education portfolio said considerations are underway for relaxation of the required paperwork/document in the transfer process for students to the educational institutions of State from other states.
Mention maybe made that recently on June 24, a review meeting chaired by the minister concerned for the Department of Labour, Employment and Manipur Society for Skill Development was held to discuss on feasible ways to fill up the labour gap in the State as result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
