Shilong : The Meghalaya government on Monday observed the World Youth Skills Day organised by the Labour Department in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Skills Development Society (MSSDS) under the umbrella of ‘Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya’ assisted by ADB at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Labour, Prestone Tynsong was the chief guest in the presence of Principal Secretary (Labour), D.P. Wahlang, Meghalaya State Skills Development Society executive director, B. Hajong, Labour Commissioner, B. Mawlong and other officers.
In his speech, Tynsong said that the aim of skills training was to enable the youth to hone one’s skill and explore employment options and opportunities in various sectors and to not only depend on white collared jobs.
Urging trainers to extend all possible help to the trainees in order to get them established in life, the Deputy Chief Minister also urged the youth to come out of laziness which is one of the factors that misled the youth in the name of unemployment and work hard not only to get job but to also help in creating jobs.

On the occasion, Tynsong along with the officials released the Skill Brochures and distributed certificates to the trainees who have completed their various skills training programmes.
Principal Secretary (Labour) and CEO of Meghalaya State Skills Development Society, D. P. Wahlang said that under the ‘Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya’ many attractive skill training programmes are being offered for the youth of the state to help them get employment.
Stating that the target is to train between 25,000 and 30,000 youth in the next one year, Wahlang informed that under the ‘Technical Intern Training Programme (TITP)’ the state government would send 60 youth having technical background to be trained in Japan.
The training programme is free of cost, he said, adding that if there is good response, the government will increase the seats.
“Training on ‘managed service operate programme’ will also start from next month to help the youth assess the feasibility of all trades,” he said.
