Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh) : In a unique initiative, the Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) here will be beginning a new certificate course on weaving through charkha. The course is aimed at developing the skills of those who do not have any educational qualifications.UPRTOU has introduced many courses under Kaushal Vikas Karyakaram for skill development. “One of these is a six-month certificate course on weaving using charkha.
As PM Narendra Modi has always focused on skill development, a decision has been taken to start charkha weaving course from January next year,” said Surendra Bahadur, Bareilly regional director of UPRTOU, who added that the university is the only such place to run this course. As it is a state open university with its head office in Allahabad, the regional offices will only provide study material. “However, we have a charkha laboratory in Allahabad where students can attend classes from Monday to Saturday for practical lessons. The laboratory has 40 charkhas to make students learn on how to run and weave on the spinning wheel.
