NSDC assured support to LAHDC under PMKVY

Leh (Jammu & Kashmir) : Taking a proactive step in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) in Leh district, the Hill Council Leh convened an important meeting with Dr. Sapna Poti, head of the National Skill Development Corporation, (NSDC) Jammu & Kashmir and North East Region at Council Secretariat Leh.

Under the chairmanship of Chief Executive Councilor, Leh Autonomous Skill Development Council ( LAHDC ), Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa the meeting was attended by all the four Executive Councilors and all the concerned HODs headed by Deputy Commissioner, Leh Prasanna Ramaswamy G.

Dr. Sapna Poti giving a detail introduction about the NSDC and guidelines of PMKVY at national level which is expected to be launched nationwide in next couple of months. She said that NSDC is a Public Private Partnership in India, under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship aims to promote skill development by catalyzing creation of large, quality and profitable institutions. She further added that NSDC provides funding to build scalable vocational training initiatives. Its mandate is also to enable support systems such as quality assurance, information systems and train the trainer academies either directly or through partnerships. NSDC acts as a catalyst in skill development by providing funding to enterprises, companies and organizations that provide skill training. Dr. Sapna added.

Talking about the identified 40 Skills sectors under PMKVY, Dr. Sapna suggested Hill Council to prepare skill development projects under three main components including Special Project, Traditional Skill Project and Demand Driven Skills projects under PMKVY which is most suitable for Leh. She also stressed for identification of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (Model Centers) at Leh for different sectors which will be supported under PMKVY for providing skill training for trainers and trainees.

CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo said that the main objective of PMKVY is to standardize the training institutes at national level with recognized certification aiming to provide guaranteed jobs to a large number of Indian youth. He directed all the concerned HODs to be fully informed about the PMKVY with innovative ideas in skill upgradation keeping in mind the different needs of Ladakh region.

It is to mention that district administration Leh is working proactively for effective implementation of Skill Development Progarmme of GOI in Leh as Deputy Commissioner, Leh has constituted an eight  member “Skill Development Task Force” committee in the month of January 2016 to do a general need assessment of skill deficiency and requirement in Leh district.

The CEC and DC, Leh directed 8 member “Skill Development Task Force” and other concerned HODs to identify Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (Model Centers), trainers and trainees in advance so that PMKVY will be implemented in Leh with full spirit. Issues like infrastructure and availability of local trainers were also discussed in the meeting.
