Odisha adopts IIT, NIT format for engineering counseling

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is all set to introduce new rules in line with the format followed by IITs and NITs for the counselling process in engineering admissions. The new guidelines will be implemented for admissions into the current academic session, informed Chief Secretary, said Aditya Padhi.

As per the new guidelines, the final list of admission will be published after the conclusion of the third phase of counselling. Students can switch streams and colleges in the meantime. Students will get one chance if there are vacant seats after the first two phases of counselling.

Initially, students will have to deposit Rs 25,000 as part admission fee with the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities instead of the concerned colleges.

“We will adopt a system similar to the sliding system followed in counselling for IITs and NITs. This will be implemented from 2017 admissions. This will reduce the number of vacancies in colleges as observed earlier,” said Padhi.

“Keeping in mind how we can provide students the colleges and streams of their choice, these reforms are being initiated,” said Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development and Technical Education, Sanjay Kumar Singh.
