More than 10 Lakh Odisha youth got skill training under CMEGP in 5 Years : Minister

Bhubaneswar: Since the implementation of Chief Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (CMEGP) in 2014-15 fiscal year, 10,38,301 young boys and girls have been imparted training till date while 16,777 trained youth have been placed since 2011-12 after being benefitted by the Placement Linked Training Programme.

This has been informed in the ongoing Budget Session of 16th Odisha Legislative Assembly (OLA) by Skill Development & Technical Education Minister Premananda Nayak in reply to a question posed by BJP MLA Nauri Nayak.

In a bid to expedite the Skill Development programme in the State and create employment generation for the youth as well as make them self-employed, Chief Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (CMEGP) has been launched since 2014-15 while 10,38,301 youth (both boys and girls) have been imparted training in the last five years, apprised the Skill Development & Technical Education Minister.

The Minister also apprised the members of the House that the ‘Placement Linked Training Programme’ (PLTP) by the Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) is a pivotal part of the CMEGP while PLTP has been implemented since 2011-12.

“While 85,680 boys and girls have been imparted training under the programme, 16,777 trained youth have been placed till 31.03.2019,” the Minister asserted.

He also informed the House that a Third Party Assessing Body recognized by the Government of India further tests the trained youth and the passed ones are given away certificates by the National Council for vocational Training (NCVT) or Sector Skill Council (SSC).

The House has also been informed that a third party agency ‘Ernst & Young’, engaged by the OSDA, inspects if the trained youth are placed properly or not as well as receive the eligible remuneration in shape of monthly salary or not as fixed by the State Government.

As per the year-wise status report on Placement Linked Training Programme circulated in the Assembly:

2011-12: 637 youth trained, 10 placed
2012-13: 5952 youth trained, 1466 placed
2013-14: 23421 youth trained, 4744 placed
2014-15: 10601 youth trained, 2000 placed
2015-16: 13181 youth trained, 2217 placed
2016-17: 8662 youth trained, 1340 placed
2017-18: 14178 youth trained, 4000 placed
2018-19: 9048 youth trained, 1000 placed
