Bhubaneswar :Â As part of India Skills 2018 and World Skill International Competition 2019 to be held in Russia, the state government will conduct skill competitions at the district and state levels very soon.
The Centre has asked the states and UTs to prepare action plans and strategies to conduct the competition among the students of skill training institutions under the Skill India Initiative, sources said Sunday. The state Skill Development and Technical Education Department will conduct the competition wherein students from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnics, MSME tool rooms, CIPET, NIFT, IITs, engineering colleges, IIITs, NIT and hospitality institutes at district and state level will participate.
According to the sources, preliminary competitions will be held at district-level and the selected students will participate at the state-level competition. The students, who will be selected by the state, will participate at the regional level competitions – divided into north, south, east, west and northeast levels.
The students, who will be selected at the regional-levels will participate at national-level skill competitions (known as India Skills) will be held this year, while the toppers of the national-level contest will get an opportunity to participate at the World Skills Competition, the largest skill competition in the world to be held next year at Kazan in Russia.
The students in the age group of 16 to 22 years, including SC, ST and physically-challenged can participate in the competition. The government has made it mandatory that at least 30 per cent of the participants ought to be girls, sources said. The Union government will facilitate the students selected for the international event. Corporate houses can also sponsor the participants for their training and necessary preparedness. The Centre will provide INR 10-50 lakh to each state in this regard under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme.
