PSDM joins forces with Microsoft to skill 10k youth

Chandigarh: In a significant move to boost the employability and skill set of the youth in Punjab, the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) has entered into a strategic partnership with Microsoft to ingrain essential skills to at least 10,000 youth of the state in a year. This collaboration aims to equip the young individuals in the state with vital digital and technological skills within a year. The formalization of this partnership was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between PSDM Director Amrit Singh and Sanjay Dhingra, Country Head Education at Microsoft Corporation India recently.

The initiative is set to offer comprehensive training in digital productivity, employability, English communication, entrepreneurship, and advanced technology areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security, and sustainability. This effort underscores the commitment of Punjab’s Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Department to not only enhance the skill set of its youth but also to open up new avenues for their employment.

Punjab’s Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training Minister Aman Arora said that this collaboration will pave the way to inculcate skills to 10,000 youth in the state with essential digital productivity skills, employability skills, English communication skills, entrepreneurship skills, and technology skills, including cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security and sustainability. The department has not been leaving any stone unturned to facilitate employment opportunities for the youth of Punjab, he said.

Elaborating on the collaboration, Singh said the comprehensive future skills collaboration with Microsoft for 2024-25 includes multiple targeted initiatives designed to address the specific needs of diverse learners catered by PSDM, aiming to enhance their skills and competence according to global needs and provide them with employment opportunities in an AI-enabled economy for better livelihoods.

Amrit Singh elaborated on the objectives of this partnership for the fiscal year 2024-25. The program is designed to cater to a diverse group of learners through targeted initiatives that aim to significantly enhance their skills and competencies.

The collaboration with Microsoft is just the beginning of PSDM’s efforts to align Punjab’s workforce with global industry standards. Singh also mentioned that more MoUs with other leading companies are anticipated soon. This proactive approach by the Department of Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training signifies a robust strategy to fulfill the industry’s demand for skilled manpower by leveraging the potential of Punjab’s youth.
