Punjab : Punjab Minister for Technical Education Charanjit Singh Channi said ITI courses and polytechnic diplomas would be taught in Punjabi medium too from the next session so that Class X pass out students could make it easy to study next level courses.
“Books in Punjabi and English will be provided. Besides Technical Education department is also going to depute English teachers and for polytechnics so that English language skill can be developed more along with technical education study,” he added.
Channi inaugurated the second ‘mega job fest’ at Rayat and Bahra Campus Railmajra today. He said the government intended to achieve the current year’s 50,000 job targets. Chairman of the group, Gurwinder Singh Bahra, told the minister that as many as 1,600 youth would be interviewed by 50 companies.
Jalandhar: A four-day state level mega job fair under ‘Ghar Ghar Naukri’ scheme concluded at CT Polytechnic College, Shahpur campus. The fair commenced from February 22 for pass out and final year students of IT, polytechnic and other courses like ITI, Diploma Engineering, BBA, BCA, BSc (Non Med/Med) and MBA.
As many as 2,400 students from Doaba region participated in the fair. Around 363 students got selected and 590 were shortlisted by 67 companies.
Channi, who attended the event today said, “Last year we provided 27,000 jobs. Reportedly till now, 46,000 requirements for the jobs have already been registered by the companies in our portal.”
When asked about the updation in education policies he said, “Punjab has become the first state where curriculum will be changed according to the National Skill Development. The current syllabus or the academic structure in the colleges and institutions is not as per the industrial needs of multinational and global companies. Therefore until the education system is linked with industrial knowledge and rate of employment would always be in downfall.”
When further enquired why the industries are shifting from Punjab, he said, “ Recently we had a meeting with industries all over the region and asked about their problems. Pepsi will soon set its branch in Pathankot and other MNCs are also willing to come to Punjab. Also in Chamkaur Sahib, a paper mill has already been set up similarly other industries have also started to come.
Kapurthala: Channi also announced that the government is going to establish a Skill Development University in collaboration with IK Gujral Punjab Technical University where skill development and entrepreneurship shall be encouraged through faculty and student exchange programmes. He opened a two-day job fair at the varsity campus.
