Jaipur : Expressing concern over shortage of teachers and faculties in universities, Rajasthan governor Kalyan Singh on Wednesday pointed out that imparting quality education to students in universities with inadequate number of teachers is a big challenge. The governor stressed the need for introducing skill-based courses for the youth to counter unemployment in the country.
Singh was speaking as a chief guest at the fifth convocation of University of Kota (UoK) on Wednesday. The recruitment process in universities has been stuck in several complexities, including delay in issuance of appointment orders, complaints and stay orders which results in the shortage of teachers and faculties in universities and besides some of the universities don’t have the sanctioned number of posts as per UGC norms, the governor said, adding in such scenario, imparting quality education to students is a big challenging. The employment opportunities are limited, Singh said and stressed on skill development so that one can get skill-based self-employment rather than searching for the job.
He called upon the youth to avail of the government schemes to start skill-based self business. The universities should now introduce skilled development based courses and bring fundamental changes for skill development in the existing ones, the governor said.
The governor appreciated the universities’ innovative concept of adopting villages to transform them into smart villages. Governor Singh on this occasion gave away 56 Ph.D degrees, 1 chancellor medal, 50 gold medals and distributed 19,251 post graduate and 34,261 bachelor’s degrees.
Earlier, the governor made digital inauguration of Major Dhyan Chand sports complex and Saint Peepa hostel of the university. He also released a booklet on the development works in Dungergiya village, adopted by UoK. Vice chancellor of UoK Prof. P.K. Dashora, KMC mayor Mahesh Vijay, UIT chairman R.K. Metha and ADM B.L. Meena along with other dignitaries were also present.
